On Tuesday, 21st October we have our Open Classroom. Doors will open at 3pm, offering you an opportunity to see what your child has been doing in school since September.

This week, we have spent lots of our lessons focusing on DT. Our DT unit for this half term is Food Technology. The week began with learning based around the seasonality of our food. We then looked at where our food comes from, is it grown, reared, caught or processed? It was an opportunity for lots of our children to share their experiences from home on their farms. This week we have started a new unit on writing instructions in English. To begin the unit we decided to follow a set of instructions about how to make an origami koala bear book mark. This was a challenge! We are very lucky to have Poppy in our class, who is an origami expert. She provided advice and supported us all through some of the more tricky parts of the process. This week we have been embracing Autumn. We have talked about signs of Autumn and spent time noticing the seasonal change. The children have enjoyed creating with the leaves, collecting acorns and using Autumnal resources to count and play. This morning, we left school slightly earlier and drove to Bolton Castle picking Grewelthorpe up along the way. On arrival it was like we had gone back in time and we were immersed in the Tudor times. During the day we learnt lots of information about the Tudors and were able to demonstrate confidently what we had learnt during our work in school. This week we have been learning about how the Ancient Greeks governed themselves in Athens. We found out about how they voted and how a Democracy was formed. This week has been another lovely week in class one!   In Maths, this week we have been looking at number bonds, adding and doubles. The children have enjoyed some creating addition fact families together. They have been working hard with lots of practical resources. In French, we have been practicing our greetings. Reception have enjoyed another busy week. We have been busy in our areas making lots of lovely creations. In our learning, we have been talking about our families. KS1 had a magical day at Bolton Castle. The children loved looking around, learning about life in the castle and looking at artefacts. It was also so lovely to be joined by North Stainley and Grewelthorpe. We started the day by meeting Master David and his wife Sue who talked to us about the castle and showed us the entrance called the Portcullis. We have had another wonderful week in class one! In English, for several weeks now we have been learning about traditional tales. In our lessons, we have read many traditional tales, considering the audience, purpose and features of the book. This week, we have thought about the vocabulary that is used in the stories. The children have also learnt about the coordinating conjunction, "and", which they are going to use in their writing.

Fountains CE Primary School is looking to recruit a friendly and committed After School Club Leader to join our team. Thank you very much to all our parents/ carers for helping us to keep the children and their families safe at dropoff and collection times this week.  We have enjoyed playing in the snow on the village green during our playtimes this week as it was the safest place to be.</p>

<p>Well done to our children for coming together to celebrate the birth of baby Jesus in our Christmas service. It was lovely to see the children singing, reciting and performing their Christmas pieces. Many thanks to family members for joining us at our service and afterwards at the carol singing. <p>All of our children learned a class dance routine this week with Holly (https://www.mind-body-dance.com/). The children performed their Christmas jumper dance brilliantly and we have shared the film clips of each performance on Youtube.</p>

<p>Congratulations to our amazing Class 1 children who entertained us all with their Wriggly Nativity this week! The children have worked so hard to learn their lines, their songs and their acting parts &#8211; you were fantastic and we are very proud of you all!</p>

<p>A huge well done and thank you to our Class 3 children who walked up to Boroughbridge Manor Care Home to entertain the residents. The children made Christmas cards and messages and gave these to the residents during their visit. We are very proud of the children’s maturity and kindness!</p>

<p>This week we had a visit from Historical Interpretations for an interactive history day. They delivered a workshop about the Mayan Civilisation to Class 3 in the morning and then the Stone Age to Class 2 in the afternoon, thank you for bringing history to life!</p>

<p>Class 3 enjoyed another fabulous day at QE yesterday making festive bath bombs. Thank you Queen Ethelburga&#8217;s once again for providing our pupils with an amazing experience!</p>

<p>Our Sing Up! children made us very proud this week when they sang Christmas carols at the Boroughbridge Christmas Lights ‘Switch On’ event. Well done Sing Up! Choir &#8211; this is a great rehearsal for our performance at Young Voices in February!</p>
