Week 5
This week, in science we have been learning about plants and trees. We went on a walk of the school grounds and did some rubbings of bark and leaves. Class Three- Sports
In Class Three, we have spent lots of time this week and last doing sports. We have had our weekly PE lessons with Mr Whitford, where we have been looking at athletics, both track and field. Week 4
Well, it has been a rather hot week but that hasn’t stopped class one. We have been ever so busy! On Monday, reception enjoyed visiting playgroup. Sports Day
We had a wonderful day for our Sports Day, with the sunshine making the afternoon even more special and particularly hot. All of the children did incredibly well, showing fantastic determination and excellent teamwork throughout the events. The afternoon began with a lovely picnic lunch on the field. Class 2 - Becoming Art Detectives at Leeds Art Gallery!

Class Three- Leeds Art Gallery
On a very warm Wednesday this week we boarded the lovely air conditioned coach and set off for Leeds Art Gallery. We began our day making origami books, which we would use to record our thoughts and ideas. We then went to explore the Victorian painting gallery. Class Three- Music Workshop
On Tuesday afternoon, we were very lucky to have an opportunity to take part in a brass instrument workshop. We split into 2 groups and each of us got an instrument to play. We practised making a sound and how to play a 'c' on the trumpet. We joined in with Mr Novell to play a short tune. Next Tuesday we are having another workshop. Class Three- World Cup 2026
World Cup fever has hit Class Three, we have spent time learning about the 2026 World Cup and how it is the first time it is being jointly hosted by 3 countries. We looked at the history of the World Cup and found out the first tournament was held in Uruguay and that they won it. England have only won it once, in 1966. But Brazil have won it 5 times. Week 3
On Wednesday, we had a lovely walk of the village. The children enjoyed taking the time to notice things whilst also considering whether it was a human or physical feature. In year one and two we have started our new unit in Geography which is all about the local area and school grounds. Class Three- Triathlon & Martial Arts
Last week we had a very busy Friday. Firstly, we spent the morning at the Hydro taking part in the Brownlee Triathlon. The children got the opportunity to try out the 3 disciplines. It was a great morning and each of us received a goody bag. After lunch in the sunshine we then went to Ripon Swimming Pool for the first of our school swimming lessons this half term. Week 6
This week in RE, KS1 looked at some Islam artefacts. We talked about the importance of each object and what they were used for. The children linked this back to their understanding of Islam and their strong belief about being respectful. Class 2 - Athletics at North Stainley!
Some of our fantastic children from Class 2 took off to North Stainley this week to compete in an exciting Inter-Schools Athletics Festival. Class Three- Descriptive Writing
This week in English, we have begun our next unit of work, Narrative. We have been reading the book Kensuke's Kingdom and are going to use this a stimulus in our writing. To start this unit we looked at description. As a class we looked at pictures and watched videos of powerful storms so we could appreciate what it might be like in a storm at sea. Class 2 Week 5
It has been a busy week in Class 2. In Maths, the children have been working together in groups to develop their understanding of time. In English, we began a new unit of work on writing diaries. We talked about why people keep diaries and read a diary entry of a monk who lived at Fountains Abbey. The children used the diary entry to create a storyboard of his day.

Class Three - Grammar and Maths
This week we have been working incredibly hard in English and Maths and have been revising some of the topics we learnt in earlier in the year. Class 2 - Bringing History to Life with a Trip to Fountains Abbey!
Class 2 had a wonderful trip to Fountains Abbey today, and it was a brilliant way to see our classroom learning in the real world!
