On Tuesday we took part in a workshop about the life of Jesus. The children sat and listened really well to the adults leading the workshop. We spent time learning about the miracles that Jesus worked. We met some of the people from the Bible who came to life and explained their stories.
We appreciated the juice and biscuits that they brought to share with us.
In Maths, we have been looking at percentages. This unit began by understanding that % means out of 100, so 34% means 34 out of 100, on a hundred square 34 squares would be coloured. This then allowed us to find equivalent decimals, fractions and percentages.
We then spent a few lessons understanding how to find the percentage of an amount. We started with 10%. The children have learnt to find 10% they divide the number by 10. Once we had 10% we could find 30%, 60% etc. Then, we tried to find 5%. This is done by finding 10% and then halving the answer. Some of the children moved onto finding any percentage of an amount. This was done by following the steps above and then finding 1% (dividing by 10 and then 10 again or dividing the number by 100).
We will continue this work on percentages next week, comparing and ordering them and continuing to practise finding a percentage of an amount.
Next week is assessment week in school, the first session of each day will be spent doing our termly assessments. The Year 6 will complete some previous SATs papers, as an opportunity to practise before May. The Year 5 children will complete their usual termly assessment paper. It is also Red Nose Day on Friday.
Have a great weekend!
