PSHE

At Ripon Rural Partnership, our PSHE curriculum places your child’s personal development, mental wellbeing, and safety at the very heart of their education.

The Jigsaw Framework

As detailed in our PSHE Curriculum Intent, Implementation and Impact document, we deliver our curriculum through the structured Jigsaw 3-11 framework. This weekly program is organized into six half-termly "Puzzles" that adapt seamlessly to our mixed-age classes:

  • Being Me in My World: Exploring personal identity, responsibilities, and school community values.

  • Celebrating Difference: Nurturing diversity, empathy, and active anti-bullying strategies.

  • Dreams and Goals: Building resilience, perseverance, and future aspirations.

  • Healthy Me: Embracing physical health, nutrition, and emotional self-regulation.

  • Relationships: Developing healthy friendships, boundary-setting, and resolving conflict with kindness.

  • Changing Me: Coping positively with change, growth, and body transitions.

Guidance and Teaching Methods

Our lessons follow specific child-development guidance to create a safe, supportive learning environment:

  • Mindful Practice: Lessons feature "Calm Me Time" to help children focus and self-regulate.

  • Respectful Dialogue: We prioritise communication skills, teaching children to express their views while respecting different perspectives.

  • Inclusion: We actively challenge stereotypes and present families in all their diverse forms so every child feels secure. Please note our primary framework focuses strictly on mutual respect and does not introduce complex concepts surrounding gender identity.

Our Long-Term Plan

Our PSHE Long Term Plan operates on a rolling two year cycle "Year A" and "Year B" rotation to prevent repetition in mixed-age classes. Learning builds progressively—from naming basic emotions in Early Years to exploring puberty using accurate biological terms in Key Stages 1 and 2.

We regularly share curriculum overviews and termly knowledge organizers so you can confidently continue these valuable conversations at home.
