This week as well as all of our usual lessons, we were visited by Miss M, from Sporting Influence. She had come to teach us all about first aid.
The session began by us thinking about what first aid is and when are where we might need it. We looked at what is in a first aid kit and all the children knew where the first aid kits are kept in school.
We then looked at DR ABC, which stands for;
Danger
Response
Airway
Breathing
Circulation
We then talked about how we would get help, we found out that quite a few children were unsure of their address. Please check with your child and help them learn where they live.
After this, we learnt how to do CPR on a child. Starting with 5 rescue breaths. Then we learnt how to position our hands for the 30 compressions. This is followed by 2 rescue breaths, then 30 compressions and repeat.
Next, we practised putting each other in the recovery position.
The session finished with each group being given a scenario, the group read the information card and gathered the resources they needed and began to treat their casualty.
It was a really useful session.
