I hope everyone had a great Easter holidays. It was great to see the children back in school.
As we have started a new term this week has meant starting lots of new units of work. In Maths, we are looking at statistics; we have covered line graphs, bar graphs and tables of data so far.
In Guided Reading we have read the first chapter of Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. Before reading the first chapter, the children used the front cover and the blurb to make predictions on what they thought would happen. We then focused on retrieving lots of information from the chapter.

We are using this book as a stimulus for our English Writing lessons too. To start the half term we are looking at recount letters, the children have planned a letter between friends, they will pretend to be the main character Michael writing to his best friend Eddie to explain what has happened to his family.
Afternoons have been filled with new learning too. In History, we have begun our working learning about Ancient Maya. We learnt where the Maya civilization was, when it was and then compared that to other times in history that we have learnt about.
The children have also spent time this week building confidence with the arithmetic skills. It has been a great first week back.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Mrs Sumner
