Since we came back in September, the children have been working on place value in Maths. They have worked so hard and have produced some great work. We might only be 3 weeks in but we have covered so much already!
We began by looking at roman numerals and thinking of them like a code which needed solving. Next we looked at reading and writing numbers up to 1 million (year 5 ) and 10 million (year 6). We have partitioned numbers, ordered them.

We then looked at rounding, there are lots of mathematical concepts needed to successfully round numbers. We broke the process into steps and took some extra time to rehearse this to ensure we knew how to do this before we went to work independently. It was great to see how much progress could be seen across just 2 lessons.

Finally this week, we have looked at negative numbers, the children were brilliant at this and were able to apply their knowledge confidently.

We will be moving on to using the 4 operations next, starting with addition and subtraction. We will keep recapping rounding as this was quite a tricky step in our place value work.
Have a great weekend!
