The end of the Autumn term!

We have had a fun and busy end to the autumn term. We have been working hard to finish our science unit to answer the big question: How do rocks change over time and how do they shape the world around us?

In our final lessons, we have been looking at soil. We discovered what soil is made up of and how rocks form one of the component parts. Then we carried out different investigations on soil samples to learn about its purpose and how important it is for humans, plants and animals.

We then brought our learning together in a final report to answer the enquiry question.

Over this half term we have been reading ‘The firework-makers daughter’ by Philip Pullman as our class text and the focus for our guided reading sessions. We have enjoyed listening to the story and finding out more about the characters as the story unfolded. Through our guided reading lessons we looked at new words and their meanings, made predictions about what might happen next and used the text to find answers to questions. In these sessions we also develop our reading fluency and prosody, we enjoy thinking about how the author might have intended it to sound, how the characters might be feeling and trying different voices when we are reading aloud.

We had a special visit from Santa today and are looking forward to playing with our new games, we are also very excited about our Christmas party tomorrow. This year, the whole school are joining together. It is going to be great fun! 😊

Happy Christmas Class 2! Have a great holiday!
