On Wednesday we had our DT and Art day in school. We began the day by joining together to hear
about the projects we were going to work on.
In DT, our focus was food and we were tasked with designing and making a healthy smoothie for the people watching Wimbledon to enjoy.
After we had been given the purpose for our design task, we began thinking about what would make a tasty smoothie. We chose different fruit combinations along with juice or yoghurt and got to work planning our smoothies. We worked in our colour groups and voted on our two favourite designs that we would make.
We had to prepare the fruit and cut it carefully ready to put in the blender and decided how long to blend the ingredients for to get the right consistency.
Following the making came the best part – the tasting! Most of us loved our smoothies however
there were some ingredients that didn’t work as well such as grapefruit, oranges and honey.
At the end of all our projects, we evaluate the process and we were able to think about what we
liked about our smoothies, what worked well and what we would change if we made them again.
In Art, we were thinking about sculpture using junk materials along the theme of the ‘Best of British’ and what symbols represent where we live. We began by thinking about landmarks and features of our area and country and came up with things like Big Ben, telephone box, farming and Fountains Abbey. We then worked on a design for our sculptures, thinking about what it would look like and the colours and materials we would need to create them.
Once we had created our designs, we began gathering the materials we would use. It was great fun working together to create our sculptures.
