Design and Technology
10 Apr 2024
This week we have had a different start to the term by completing a design and technology project. Our topic was levers and linkages and we began on Wednesday by learning about different mechanisms. This involved exploring our environment and finding different mechanisms around us. We also thought of some that we have at home such as window and door handles, the controls to put the blinds up and down, staplers, scissors and lots more! We then looked at how levers and pivots work and labelling the different componants in each mechanism.
Following our exploration, we made our own prototypes.
In our next session, we were introduced to the design brief. We were tasked to create a persuasive poster involving a mechanism. First we needed to think about what we wanted to persuade people to do. Once we had decided on this we thought about the target audience for our poster. When we had this information we began to plan our project. We created images for our poster and then thought about how we could include a mechanism. Over time we developed our drawings to illustrate each part and the mechanisms we would use to create the movement and meet the brief.
Here are our finished products:
The final element of our project was to revisit the brief and evaluate our work to see if we have met the criteria and give our assessment on what had worked well or what we might do differently. We also looked at each others and gave our comments on the things we liked about their posters.Well done Class 2, you have worked really hard on your projects and the final products are super!
Next week: Tuesday - Striking and fielding festival at OutwoodWednesday - Book club! children can bring a favourite book/ comic or a book they have enjoyed reading out of school to share. This can be a poem or joke book, comic, biography etc. The idea is to share our recommendations with each other to inspire our next reading choices. We hope the children will enjoy having the time to listen and share with each other. We will be doing this as morning task every Wednesday.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Wray & Mrs Micklefield
