This week has been DT week.
We were exploring the big question: How can textiles be used to celebrate Christmas?
We began the week by looking at the history of Christmas stockings and shared our own traditions. We then did some research to look at different designs of stocking and discussed designs we liked.
Following this, we looked at examples of cross stitch and applique as techniques that we might use in our designs. Threading the needle proved a bit of a challenge but we persevered!
After practicing these skills, we began to design our stockings. We thought about who the stocking was going to be for and why we were making it. Once we had completed our designs, we began to make the stockings. We used templates to help us create the parts we needed so that we could get the sizes right. We then used the techniques we had practiced to sew our stockings. Some of us changed our designs as we went along but we are very pleased with the results!
