This week in class 2…
In our history work we have been answering the enquiry question: What were the achievements of Ancient Egypt and what did they lead to?
We began by thinking about what a civilization is and how they began. We looked at different civilizations and where they were formed. We then thought about why they formed near a river and the importance of the River Nile in Ancient Egypt.
We found that the River Nile was used for water and washing as well as being vital for the farming of the land. It was also used to transport and trade goods between cities along its banks.
After this, we moved on to think about who ruled Ancient Egypt and what life was like in Ancient Egypt. We learned about the pharaohs and how they contributed to Ancient Egypt during their reign.
On our visit to Leeds City museum, we learned about mummification and the afterlife and we brought this knowledge into school and linked this with Egyptian Gods and what they were believed to have control over.
We finished our topic work by becoming a scribe and writing using hieroglyphs. We enjoyed creating messages and working out what each other had written!
