On Tuesday, we enjoyed "Be Safe" Day, taking part in a range of interactive sessions with special visitors to learn about staying safe in different situations:

  • We began the day reflecting on safety in school, discussing which trusted adults we can turn to and reviewing the support systems we have in place. Later in the morning, we focused on practical steps for staying safe online.

  •  A Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) joined us to talk about their role in keeping our community safe. The children loved seeing the equipment PCSOs carry and were especially excited to explore the police van!

  • In the afternoon, a guest speaker visited to discuss farm safety, teaching us how to stay safe around farm machinery, heavy vehicles, and animals.

  • To wrap up the day, Mrs Longstaff spoke to us about water safety. We discussed never going near water without an adult, staying aware of our surroundings, and knowing who can help if someone gets into difficulty in the water.

In Science, we have been learning all about materials and their properties. The children conducted a fair test to discover which materials keep water out. Using pipettes, they carefully applied drops of water to wood, paper, cardboard, plastic, tin foil, and sponges to observe what happened and record their findings like true scientists!

Our Reception children have been thoroughly enjoying our new water reservoir system! They have spent lots of time pouring water, watching it travel through the channels, and experimenting with stoppers. Using a variety of resources, they have also had fun testing which items sink and which items float.
