We are well into our Tudor unit now and have covered so much already. We are really looking forward to our trip to Bolton Castle nest Friday. You should have received a letter reminding you of the arrangements for our trip.

This week, we have been learning about the monarchs who ruled after Henry VIII. We realised the Tudors changed monarchs as quickly as Henry changed wives.

Chronology is really important to demonstrating a good understanding of history, so we spent time placing the monarchs on timelines. We used the Tudor family trees, we created earlier this half term, to predict who would be the next monarch and then found out if we were correct. Which we often weren't as the line of succession often didn't follow the usual blood line.

When Henry died, his son, Edward, took over but as a strong Protestant he wasn't going to pass on the throne to his Catholic sister. So Lady Jane Grey became the next Queen. But 9 days was the length of her rein! Edward's sister Mary took the throne next and earnt herself the nickname bloody Mary.

We carried out research in pairs and produced some super fact files and reports on Edward VI, Lady Jane Grey and Mary 1st.
