Class Three - First Week Back - Geography

Welcome back! It was lovely to see the children back after their Christmas break and to hear what they have been up to.

This week, we have started our new block subject, Geography. This half term we are answering the question 'Should Ripon have a train station?' The children were very enthusiastic to share their opinions and ideas on this from the start.

Our first lesson looked at where Ripon is and how it is connected. In this lesson we shared what we already knew about Ripon, we used the 8 points of a compass to explore what places were in different directions from Ripon. We talked about Ripon being a city and what that means. After that we looked at the rail and road networks in the UK and how this allowed Ripon to connect with other places.

In our next lesson we will look in more detail about the type of settlement Ripon is and how the land is used.
