Class 2 - Science
Over the past few weeks, we have been learning all about States of Matter in Science. We have been investigating how materials change between solids, liquids and gases, and how temperature affects these changes.
We began by exploring how we can identify solids, liquids and gases. We discussed the properties of each state and considered how their shape and movement can help us describe them.
We then investigated how materials change state. We explored melting and freezing by looking closely at chocolate and ice melting. This helped us to understand how heating and cooling can cause a material to change from one state to another. We also considered how temperature affects changes of state, including what happens when a solid is warmed or a liquid is cooled.
Next, we learnt about what happens when liquids become gases. This process is called evaporation. To develop our understanding further, we have set up an experiment to observe which conditions create the best environment for evaporation. We will be carefully monitoring our investigation and comparing what happens in different conditions.
The class have asked some fantastic questions to explore their understanding and we are improving our scientific thinking as we continue to develop our understanding of materials and the world around us. Please have a look at the picture of our investigation set up below!
