Class Three- Roseberry Topping
On Wednesday, Class Three went to Roseberry Topping to carry out some fieldwork linked to our Geography topic. We have been looking at mountains and the impact that they have.
Our trip began with meeting our 2 guides for the day and they had brought along their dog mischief. We walked up to the halfway point with Grewelthorpe. Parts of the path were very steep. We learnt how the National Trust are looking after Roseberry Topping and how recently they have been using helicopters. We then walked through the woods and learnt about tree conservation.
The rangers were very impressed with our enthusiasm and so we were allowed to climb to the very top. I was really impressed with all of the children, some found it quite easy and went off to the front, others found it very challenging and with me they took their time and we all made it to the top.
On the top, we talked about what we could see and how things have changed, before we climbed down and met Grewelthorpe for lunch.
After lunch, we also did some fieldwork on our own. The children listed all the features they could see and identified whether they were physical or human. In groups they talked about how Roseberry Topping was being looked after and wrote about the signs we had seen that showed they were encouraging tourism. We finished by doing some sketching before we descended and got back on the bus.
