This week in English, we have begun our next unit of work, Narrative. We have been reading the book Kensuke's Kingdom and are going to use this a stimulus in our writing. To start this unit we looked at description.
As a class we looked at pictures and watched videos of powerful storms so we could appreciate what it might be like in a storm at sea. We then created a word bank of exciting adjectives and imagery. After talking about different ways we could start our sentences the children began their descriptions.
Here are some examples of their work, they have done a great job!
On Friday, we were joined by the Year 5 and 6s from Grewelthorpe for a Maya workshop. We were able to demonstrate lots of things we have learnt during the topic and got the chance to handle artefacts, try on clothes and play games.
We looked closely at a range of artefacts, thinking about what they were used for and who would use them. We used Maya currency (cocao beans) to play a game about Maya. We also matched the Maya Gods to the correct labels using descriptions of them. There were also clothes for us try on.
It was a lovely way to end our work on Maya.
Have a lovely half term!
