Class 2 News

This week has been all about maps! We have been learning to use the key on the OS map of the local area to identify symbols and other geographical features. The children have loved using the maps to identify local landmarks and understand their locations in relation to the school or their houses. They learned how to use 4 figure and 6 figure grid references to give the location of different objects. We ended the week finding out how hills and mountains are represented on maps. The children found the contour lines and then made their own mountains out of lego. The children used elastic bands to show the contour lines on their models and then drew the contour lines in their books. All our skills were used to the full as we tracked Sara Cox on her Great Northern Marathon Challenge.
