KS1 had a magical day at Bolton Castle. The children loved looking around, learning about life in the castle and looking at artefacts. It was also so lovely to be joined by North Stainley and Grewelthorpe.
We started the day by meeting Master David and his wife Sue who talked to us about the castle and showed us the entrance called the Portcullis. After that we went into the solar to get dressed for the day. Once ready, we looked at lots of artefacts from the castle and talked about castle life, we were allowed to try these on. After that, we went to learn about what schooling was like in the castle. We had to use a quill and ink to write our names, it was hard. Each of us had a photo in different roles in the castle, we are going to make a book over the next few weeks.
Then it was lunchtime, we had a picnic outside. After that it was time to be archers and soldier! We enjoyed marching around the bailey with spears. Following that some of us were guards, prisoners, woodmen, bakers and brewer then we explored the lord and queens rooms.
We finished the day with a trip to the maze.
Thank you for helping us have such a fantastic day. The children learnt so much and had a great time.
