Our Roman pottery

14 Nov 2020

We have been having lots of fun this week, researching, planning and making a Roman artefact out of clay.

We began by researching the types of pottery that had been found from Roman times by archaeologists. We discovered that pottery was an important part of daily life in Ancient Rome. We focused particularly on fine wares and course wares and the difference between the two. We also looked at the Romans style of decoration, which was mainly engraving and glazing, and how this compared with the pottery work of the Greeks for example. The children used this research to help them design their own item of pottery for them to make out of clay.

Here we are creating our artefacts. We worked really hard at this task and showcased a range of skills.

Finally, as you know it was Children in Need on Friday. We all wore non-uniform and were very spotty! We did a range of activities to celebrate, and here are a few photos of the children taking part in the Joe Wicks workout. Look out for Tom's jump!
