Class 4 - Monday 15th June

11 Jun 2020

Good Morning Class 4

Hi all...Happy Monday! smiley I hope you all had a lovely weekend? We had a great birthday weekend for Will with lots of paw patrol and cake! smiley The weather was much better than expected too!

The Year 6 children are in school with Mrs Lewis today so it's just me and you, Year 5. Let's all have a great Monday!

I am really running out of clips now! I thought I would follow on from Friday's theme of pets! I hope it makes you smile...Chloe the cat is funny (and fat)!

Remember that if you would like to send me examples of your work, or simply want to tell/ ask me something then you can use Purple Mash email or the class email address: class4@gfschools.co.uk. I'm always more than happy to hear from you.

Lunchtime TTrockstars update!

The boys are definitely winning so far! You've got until 3.30pm...let's see who wins! smiley

These are your tasks for today. Remember, you can do the tasks in any order, and you don't have to do everything if you don't have time. yes

PE:

Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go!

Reading task:

Nothing has changed here...I still want you to read for 30 minutes! Remember to keep doing the AR quizzes when you complete a book as you would do at school. Follow the link below:

https://ukhosted79.renlearn.co.uk/6706937/

If you have run out of books to read, then visit the enrichment page on our website and read the 'what can I read next?' article.

Maths task:

Today, I would like you to have a go at the below game. It will test your times table knowledge as you will need to find products and factors. There are 3 different levels (marked by stars), see if you can work through them all.

I have also created a tournament on tt rockstars for boys versus girls. It is 2-1 to the girls so far so let's see who wins today! The tournament will run from 9am to 3.30pm.

Spelling task:

Today, I would like you to complete an alphabetical list of cities from around the world. See if you can get all the way through the alphabet, and include some capital cities too. For example, A could be Amsterdam, B could be Barcelona etc.

Writing task:

I would like you to pick a city of your choice; it can be in this country or a different one. I would then like you to create a travel leaflet all about it.
Some ideas of what you could include information about, are: weather, travel time, key tourist spots, accomodation and the local cuisine.
Remember to make your leaflet eye-catching and easy to read; you should use pictures and colour.

Being kind...

I am leaving this on here as a reminder so that you don't forget to always make the effort to be kind. This could be done in a variety of ways, it could be: some kind words when they are needed; a drink or snack made for someone; tidying up; dishwasher emptying; a message to someone who might be feeling down; a hug (to someone in your household); or something else, whatever it is, it will be worth it to make someone else smile!

Learning project:

The focus for this week's project is 'around the world'.

The projects this week aim to provide opportunities for you to learn more about countries and cities around the world. Learning may focus on different cultures and traditions, famous landmarks, food and clothing.

Choose one of these projects to start this afternoon. smiley

Flags of the World- Flags are a national symbol for all countries. Cultures use different symbols and colours on their flags which are meaningful to them and represent their history and people. I'd like you to pick 5 countries and investigate their flags. What symbols and colours have they used? Why are these significant to this country? Can you create a flag for the UK which you feel represents our culture, history and people?

 ● Tastes of the World- Children all around the world eat a variety of food and many of the foods we eat today are inspired by other countries. Can you research and make a dish from another country which you have not tried before? You could find a recipe, source the ingredients via an online shop and follow the recipe to create a dish for the whole family.

 ● International Games- As part of the London 2012 Olympics a variety of countries were asked to name a traditional game which represented their culture and traditions. You can see these at the link below. Can you research these games and take inspiration from them to design your own game. Think about how the game is played, how you win and what equipment is needed. Where possible, you should test your game and make any changes needed. Please can you present your game through writing and pictures. These could be handwritten or digital.

 ● From Birmingham to Johannesburg- Think about what it would be like to live in another country. Do you think your life would be the same or completely different? Use the following clip to compare living in Birmingham to Johannesburg. Can you show the similarities and differences between your life and Nwabisa’s life in South Africa. You may wish to show this in a Venn diagram, table or a poster.

 ● Exploring the World- Throughout history many people have explored new places. You can find out about some of them on the link below. You could pick an explorer from the list or one of your choice. You should map out the places that the explorer visited or you could create a piece of art inspired by the places they visited using digital images as support. You may wish to write a diary entry from the explorer’s point of view to share what they have seen and experienced.

Have a great day everyone.

Take care
