Dancing and singing to stand against bullying

11 Feb 2022

What a busy half term. I cannot believe we are nearly at half term!

Dance and Music

Dance and Tennis have been our focus in PE throughout the term so far. Through our dance unit we have choreographed two dances - a wake up, shake up dance which the children designed for other pupils to follow to help them get moving and energised on a morning. Through creating this dance we thought about the movements we can create with our bodies whilst jumping, spinning and stretching.

We then used the skills and moves we learnt with another song which we have been learning in Music. The song is called Stop!  and it is an example of Grime music. Grime is a style of urban British music that is a mix of hip hop, jungle, garage and ragga - developed in the early 2000’s from UK electronic music styles. Rapping is one of the main elements of this style with heavy basslines, turntables, digital and electronic sounds used. The lyrics are written from a place of truth about the world, feelings, and experiences.  The lyrics of Stop! talk about standing up to bullying and how unkind it is. As you can imagine the children have really enjoyed getting stuck into this modern style of music and have worked collaboratively to create some expressive dances.

Reading

As we reach the end of a half term, we start to look at who has achieved their reading targets again. These targets are
set by the power of a complex algorithm in our reading scheme and is individualised for each child depending on their reading range and the amount of time they have to read. This half term has seen a staggering number of pupils absolutely smash their targets in Class Three with some children reaching their target twice! This is a real testament to the amount they are reading at home as well as in school. Reading really is the cornerstone to all thinking and learning in school, so it is vital that we crack this important skill as early as we can and it seems in Class
Three we are doing just that so well done everyone!

Remember if you are trying to help your child to reach their target then you can always check if books are on AR by using the arbookfinder website!

We are always adding more books to the AR book shelves thanks to generous donations from past pupils and families. If you do have any books that your family have now outgrown then we would welcome donations to help keep our shelves bursting with amazing stories for the children to enjoy! Just drop them in at the office and we will work our magic to get them labelled up and on our bookshelves.

Pupil Voice

Next week is our pupil voice week. During the week we are going to be doing lots of exciting activities in our pupil voice groups so keep an eye out for more details! Further information can also be found in the school news section of the website. As a school we are working hard with the children to develop an authentic pupil voice across school, so the children are helping to make decisions and influence our school for the better! The committees will be meeting during this week to make plans and organise their next priorities for the following half term and beyond. We are looking forward to seeing the groups work together in their t-shirts throughout the week, I think it will be a special time for all! Our Vision of Believe, Learn, Flourish in Faith hope and love is always so evident during events like these when the children show their commitment and love for one another whilst helping each other to develop skills and grow in confidence.
