Class 3 - Thursday 30th April

29 Apr 2020

Thursday 30th April 2020
30.04.2020

Good morning class three. I hope you are all well. I was very impressed yesterday by your beautiful Springtime collages: I need to say a big well done to Matilda, Ava, Chloe E and Chloe H and Jacob for their beautiful artwork. I was also very impressed by Matilda, Florence, Jacob and Max's hard work on Charanga - well done to you all laugh.

These are your tasks for today. I hope you enjoy them.

Maths
I was very impressed with Noah, Fraya, Abbey, Matilda, Tom, Henry, Max D, Hannah and Chloe E who all got 100% on the maths activities on their first attempt laugh.

Today, I would like you to go onto MyMaths and, after having completed the online lessons for your year group, complete the online homework task. One activity is about bar division and the other is about the Distributive law (it's a lot more scary than it sounds, I promise!) and then go onto your lesson and click on the online homework task, that has been set for you. If you are struggling, then please drop me an email: class3@gfschools.co.uk and I will do my best to help you.

SPaG
For your SPaG task, I would like you to log onto PurpleMash and complete the 2Do's I have set. There is one for year 3 and one for Year 4. Have a go and do your best.

Spelling
I would like you to choose 15 of the year 3/4 common exception words and write some descriptive sentences, using each word once. I would like you to complete these in your workbooks and take special care over your handwriting and presentation.

Reading
I would like you to spend at least thirty minutes reading some of your AR book. I know a lot of you are trying hard with your quizzes, which is fantastic – keep it up. I am very proud to see that so many of you have already achieved your AR targets - a very very big well done to you!! There is still lots of time for the rest of you to be completing your quizzes. Let’s see who else can get to their targets by the end of this week.

A little extra…
In keeping with our ‘anonymous friend’ activities that we were doing before school broke up, I thought it would be a lovely thing if we carried them on at home. Now, we can’t do it in the quite the same way as we did at school so rather than being ‘anonymous friends’, I thought we could do ‘kindness tasks’ at home.
For example it could be: tidying a room, leaving a thank you note to mums and dads, making a sibling a snack, giving someone at home a hug……

2.6 Challenge

It has been great to hear about your 2.6 challenges…..I am struggling for ideas so I would be interested to hear if any of you guys have got any suggestions for me....drop me an email and let me know 😊.

Learning Project: Animals

The project this week aims to provide opportunities for you to learn more about key animals that interest you. Learning may focus on exploring the physical aspects of an animal, their habitat, categorising animals etc.

Really use this time to wonder, explore and reflect on animals that fascinate you. Choose activities from the list below or if you can be creative in a different way please do! We would love to see what you create and find out so remember to send us a quick snap of any animal work to class3@gfschools.co.uk

Let’s Wonder:

Create fact files about deadly predators. Draw pictures of the predators and label them with the information you find out. Where does the predator live? Why does it live there? What does it eat? How does it capture its prey? What special qualities do these predators have? Make a food chain to demonstrate why a predator is at the top of the chain. You could make a set of top trump cards using the information you have found out.

Let’s Create:
Explore the artist Franz Marc. Find out who he was and what type of artist he was. What did he like to create pictures? Look at some of his paintings online. Then choose an animal to draw and add colour to, in a similar style to his. What do you think of his paintings? Did you like your finished piece of artwork? Why?/Why not?

Be Active:
Get out into the garden and make a bug hotel. Go on a mini beast hunt and record what you find. If you find any minibeasts you haven’t seen before you could always look it up online. What can you find out about these amazing creatures?

Time to Talk:

Find out which animals are your family members' favourites and why. Have a family debate about whether zoos should exist. Discuss whether you agree/disagree and why?  Do your family members have a different opinion to you? Why not debate whether animals should be kept as pets?

Understanding Others and Appreciating Differences:

Which animals are sacred around the world and why? Sacred Animals  Who admires cows? Lions? Wolves? Which animals were important to the Egyptians and why?

It is lovely to receive all your work: I was really proud of Lily's writing work that she completed today - well done Lily smiley. Keep those photos of things you have been doing coming in, it is lovely to receive them. If you wanted, you could always send me a video as well. I hope you are all keeping well and safe.
Take care of one another, be safe and be kind!! Missing you all 😊 😊
Love from Miss Vetch
