  โ€‹Wednesday 1st April 2020

01.04.2020

Good Morning Class Three. I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. I am still missing you all very much, but it is keeping me cheerful receiving all your lovely pictures of your hard work, and emails with all the fun, exciting things you have been doing ๐Ÿ˜Š. I have got a riddle for you – What has a face and two hands but no legs? (answer at the bottom ๐Ÿ˜‰).

It has been great to hear that so many of you are enjoying the YouTube videos – I have sent out some links for todays videos which include our mental maths challenge, our class word jumble, another section of Swallows and Amazons as well as introducing a new story – ‘To Wee or not too Wee’.

Word Jumble
See if you can beat me…..

Maths

Today, I’d like you to have a go at the challenges I have set for you on SumDog. Find the challenge that has been assigned to you and have a go at completing it please. I have also set a mental maths challenge on YouTube – I have sent your parents the link to it. There is also a little competition on SumDog as well for you to have a go at.

Reading
Please read for 30 minutes from your current AR home reading book. Remember to check the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary.  I will be keeping an eye on your points targets and giving a big shout out to those of you who reach their target! It would be great if you could write me a short summary of what your book is about – remembering to use correct punctuation and check the dictionary for spellings.

Spellings
I would like you to have a go at this spooky spelling game:
http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/spookySpellings/index.html. It shows you a mix of the year 3 and 4 common exception words. You will be given one word at a time to look at, try and memorise and then spell correctly for the skeleton teacher. You spell the words by dragging the letters to the shelf in the correct order. See if you can get them all right!

Writing

Log on to your Purple Mash account and complete the ‘2do task’. Today’s task is, remembering what we were learning about in terms of the Arctic Tundra, to write an informative leaflet about how animals have adapted to life in the Polar Regions. Please remember to include interesting and technical vocabulary, use correct punctuation and try hard with your presentation. If Purple mash doesn’t work properly, or you would rather complete the task in your workbooks and email me a photo or attachment, that is fine ๐Ÿ˜Š.

PE

It has been great to hear about all the exercises you have been doing with Joe, keep it up. I have also attached another link that has been sent by one of our PE coaches at Grewelthorpe, so why not have a go at that as well.

Learning Project Focus: Our Local Area

The project this week aims to provide opportunities for you to learn more about the area in which you live. Learning may focus on your local area, famous people, key landmarks and links to your city.

Let’s Wonder:

Think about your street. What type of houses are on your street? What type of house do you live in? What other buildings are close by? Find out about your local area, what different buildings does it have? How old are some of those buildings? How have they changed over time? Use a map to locate different places. Look on โ€‹
Google Earthโ€‹. Draw your own map of their local area.

Let’s Create:

Choose a building you most admire in your local area. Make a model of that building using materials of your choice. (Playdough, โ€‹junk modelingโ€‹, lego etc…..) Reflect on your creation: How well did you do? What would you do differently next time? What have you learned by making this?

Be Active:

Try and be as active as you can daily! Make sure you get outside and exercise every day if possible or try out online exercise classes like Joe Wickes! Get out into the garden, pull up some weeds or mow the lawn? (With parental guidance!) Does your garden need a tidy up? Maybe you could plant some seeds.

Time to Talk:

Were your family members all born in this local area? If not, how is their place of birth different to your own local area? If they were, how different is the local area since they were born? Talk about their memories of how it has changed.

Understanding Others and Appreciating Differences:

Research different places of worship that can be found in our local area. Can you find their nearest Church? Mosque? Synagogue? Temple? Gurdwara? What can you find out about them? Draw pictures and label them with any information they find out.

 Reflectโ€‹:
Think about what would improve the local area? What is our local area lacking? What spoils your local area? What could be done?

I hope you have enjoyed todays activities, I look forward to seeing / hearing all about them. I hope you are all keeping well and looking after your Mums and Dads. Take care, keep safe and remember to get some fresh air and exercise!

See you soon ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ˜Š

Miss Vetch

PS The answer was ‘clock’ ๐Ÿ˜Š
