Rockets to the Moon

09 Jul 2021

We had a lovely time yesterday when Miss Thewsey came to spend the day with us.  We enjoyed getting to know her and we are looking forward to September when Miss Thewsey will be one of our teachers.

The focus of our recent English lessons has been a story called ‘Bob, Man on the Moon’.
We enjoyed reading the story and exploring the characters and setting.  The story is a diary of one day in the life of Bob, who travels each day to his job…on the Moon!

We collected suitable adjectives to describe the very funny aliens that kept appearing in the story.  They appear on every page but always hide from Bob and he never sees them, insisting that there are no aliens on the moon!

We practised writing the words that are spoken by the characters.  At first, we put the words into speech bubbles, to show what the characters were saying.

Then, Year Two learnt about writing speech as part of a text.  Everyone tried hard to include the correct speech punctuation around the spoken words.

We decided to write our own versions of the story.  This time, we put ourselves into the story and became the boys and girls who went to work on the Moon each day.

After all that hard work, we all went outside to relax in the sunshine:

Sadly, we also say ‘Goodbye’ to Oliver this week.  We will all miss him and hope that he settles into his new house quickly and has lots of fun at his new school. Good Luck Oliver!

Have a lovely weekend.  See you on Monday 😊
