25.6.21 PSHE, Computing and RE

25 Jun 2021

Our Jigsaw PSHE sessions always take place in a circle so that we can all focus on the person talking.  We completed the Jigsaw puzzle, 'Being Me in My World' in the first half term and are now working on, 'Healthy Me.'  Jigsaw Jack helps us to explore and share our ideas.  This half term, we have looked at what we need to do to be healthy - sleeping enough, eating a balanced diet, getting plenty of exercise, drinking water, keeping ourselves clean and spending time with our friends and family.  We enjoy the Jigsaw songs that accompany each puzzle!  Today we were examining a selection of cleaning products for our bodies, for houses and clothes.  We decided whether each item is safe or unsafe for children and we talked about the storage of any unsafe items in a kitchen or bathroom.

Computing sessions in school involve using Purple Mash.  We have just fnished the unit covering different styles of painting, recreating these styles on the computer.  We touched on impressionism, pointillism, surrealism and the work of William Morris. Now, our focus is coding.  Over the last couple of weeks, the children have been creating a background and characters for a game.  Now we can make them move in specific directions using code!

RE has focussed on Christianity, looking at the reasons why Christians consider Jesus to be 'good news.'  We explored how Jesus was a friend to the friendless, how he forgave those who were sorry and how Christians find peace. This half term we are considering, 'How should we care for others in the world and why does that matter?'  Last week, the child acted out the story of 'The Good Samaritan' which revealed some hidden acting talents.
