Making Healthy Choices…

This week, we have done a lot of thinking about being healthy. The learning focus in our PSHE lessons, and in Collective Worship, is ‘Healthy Me’.  We’ve been thinking about making healthy choices to look after our bodies.  We know that this includes getting enough sleep, keeping clean and having plenty of exercise, as well as having a balanced diet that includes lots of fruit and vegetables.

Year One had their vision tests on Tuesday and the nurse explained to us that it’s important to have our eyes checked regularly, as well as having dental checks.

We really enjoy exercising our bodies in our PE lessons with Mr Powell and Mr Whitford. We also try to get lots of exercise at playtimes.  This week, we’ve been focussing on cricket skills with Mr Whitford.

As part of our learning about non-fiction texts, we have been looking at the features of writing recipes.  This week, we designed our own recipes for healthy fruit or vegetable kebabs, then wrote a recipe to explain how to make it:

In our theme work, we learnt that, at the time of Captain Cook, many sailors were not well cared for and often became ill.  We found out that Captain Cook tried hard to make things better for his crew.  He cared about them and tried to keep them healthy, by having rules about keeping clean and providing more comfortable places for the sailors to sleep.  He also tried to provide them with healthy fresh food whenever possible,  to  protect them from getting a disease called scurvy.  We made some ‘Sailor’s Guide’ booklets:

Meanwhile, in maths, we've been working on both multiplication problems and shape.  We practised naming 2d and 3d shapes and looked at their properties. We enjoyed making some pictures using 2d shapes.
