Magic Beanstalks! Class 2

14 May 2021

All kinds of magic beanstalks...

This week, we have been working very hard on our writing skills.  We were excited to reach the end of our writing journey based on the traditional tale of 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.  Having shared lots of alternative versions of the story recently, we read the story 'Jack and the Jelly Beanstalk' on Tuesday. We enjoyed making story maps to sequence the key events in the story:

All the versions of the story have given us lots of ideas for our own story writing. We began by creating our characters and settings.  We had lots of fun thinking about our magic beanstalks.  We had some brilliant ideas for plants that could grow all sorts of different things, including fruit, chocolate cookies, boots, toys… and fish!

Then, we thought about what would happen in our version of the story and made our story maps.

Everyone tried very hard with their writing.  Here are some of the stories:

We then designed book covers:

Lastly, we enjoyed sharing our stories and listening to all the different ideas that everyone had come up with!

Back in the real world, we've been taking good care of our broad bean seedlings and they are growing well, though not as fast as the magic beanstalks in our stories!  We are pleased that they are ready to plant outside and we're looking forward to doing this on Monday, with Mrs Goss in our Forest School lesson.

Have a lovely weekend!
