7.5.21 Class Two

07 May 2021

This week in maths, we have been working on fractions.  We thought about what a fraction is and when we might divide objects into fractions. We learnt that fractions are made when a number or object is split into equal parts.  We spent time identifying halves and quarters on pictures of cakes, pizzas and chocolate, then we folded paper rectangles and circles into halves and quarters:

In our grammar work in English lessons, we have recently been focussing on the different word types. We learnt that verbs are action words, nouns are naming words and adjectives are describing words.  This week, we put nouns and adjectives together to create expanded noun phrases.

In our Guided Reading lesson, we had fun spotting the  expanded noun phrases in the story ‘Jack and the Baked Beanstalk.’  This is the second alternative version of Jack and the Beanstalk that we have read.  Last week, we enjoyed reading ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’.  Here are some of pictures by Year One.  We tried hard to label the pictures with adjectives to describe the giant.

We have spent time comparing the different stories and looking at the things that are different or similar to the original story.  We thought it was very funny that the beanstalk in Jack and the Baked Beanstalk is growing tins of beans instead of bean pods!

In recent music lessons, we have been enjoying singing together.  We also learnt that pulse is the steady beat of the music.  We are all getting very good at clapping the pulse and moving to the pulse of the music. We enjoyed investigating a variety of instruments this week.  We listened to the sounds made by the different instruments and used them to tap the pulse of the music that we listened to:
