English

Today, we're going to begin some work about story writing

We're going to listen to a story called 'Monkeys and Hats'.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-listen-and-respond-to-a-story-6mw3ad?activity=video&step=1

After the story, we will be thinking about making a story matrix (a grid with 2 rows and 3 columns).
You will be able to draw the story matrix  in your book, or you can print this one:

-Monkeys and Hats plot matrix.docx-

In each rectangle of the matrix, we will think about different things in the story.
- Where is the setting for the story?
- Who are the main characters
- What happens?  What is the problem?
- What is the solution? How is the problem solved?
- What happens in the end
- What can we learn from the story?

Spelling and Phonics
Please practise this week's spellings.  Fill in the words on the spelling log for Day 3.

Please practice the sounds and blend words, using the interactive games found on the link below:
https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/
username: jan21   password: home
This link will take you to the home page. Click on the log in, then go to 'Resources'.  Here you will see the games to choose from.  Within the games, there are different levels.  You can start with easier questions then challenge yourself with the harder ones.  Today, please spend 15 minutes working on:
Year 1 -
 Rocket Rescue and Space Race
Year 2 - Choose a game from Phase 5

 Maths
You can stop the video if you need more time to work out the answers.

Year 1-   Place Value of numbers to 50.
Year 2 -  Making equal groups.

Year 1 - We are going to watch the video then spend twenty minutes working on the question sheet.

Spr1.5.2 - Numbers to 50 from White Rose Maths on Vimeo.

Year One:   Questions  -Y1-Spring-Block-2-WO1-Numbers-to-50-2019.pdf-

Parents, here are the answers:
-Y1-Spring-Block-2-ANS1-Numbers-to-50-2019.pdf-

Year 2 : Watch the video about making equal groups and then have a go at the practical tasks.

Spr2.3.5 - Make equal groups activity from White Rose Maths on Vimeo.

Year 2 - No worksheet today.  Work throught the activities on the video and write answers in your book.
Please work on these activities for twenty minutes and see how far you get.

Children, please remember, to do your corrections with a purple pen, like you do at school, to show that you made a mistake but you have checked it.

Key Instant Recall Facts
Please ask an adult to test you on the KIRF objective that you have been practising.  Remember, to tick it off on your planet sheet, you must know the facts instantly.  It might take you a few weeks to become fast enough... keep practising!

Today, I would also like you to log into Sumdog maths.

Click on this link to sign in, then add your password: https://www.sumdog.com/
Play the games to practise your knowledge of number facts and to help you speed up with your instant recall facts..

Science - Everyday Materials and Their Uses
Today, we’re going to  be thinking about materials again.
To begin our lesson, h
ere are some pictures of  things made from unusual materials.  Can you spot what the objects are made from?

  -9788-Y2 unusual uses for materials.pptx-

Our question in today's lesson is:  How can I describe an object?    Watch the video for Lesson 3 to get some ideas.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/how-can-i-describe-an-object-c9h38c?activity=intro_quiz&step=1

(Parents, the presenter asks the children to complete and write sentences about towels and windows.  Please encourage the children to discuss the answers and complete the sentences verballyThey can write the sentences if they choose to but the focus does not need to be on what they have written down).

Science Tasks:
Let's think about some of the describing words used in the video:

hard      soft     rough     smooth     shiny     waterproof
Can you find objects to match each of these descriptions?

Now, we're going to focus on these two words:
transparent     opaque
transparent  - objects that we can see through
opaque       - objects that we can't see through

Can you make a set of opaque objects and a set of transparent objects?   Make some labels for your sets.
Draw a picture of the sets or take a photograph.

It would be great if you could send the drawing or photograph of the sets that you have made today.  I'm looking forward to seeing which objects you found for each group.

PE

For your exercise today, how about some Dinosaur themed mindfulness yoga with Tiny the T Rex?

How about a
PE Challenge?   Have a look at the Travel to Tokyo challenge on the News Page of the website. I wonder how many miles you can collect?

Take care and look after each other.
Mrs Micklefield
