Happy Monday Class 2!

I hope you have all had a super weekend.  It's great to be back with you - here we go again with another week of learning!   You all did brilliantly last week and Mrs Lewis and I are very proud of you.

Parents, thankyou for all the support that you are giving to the children. We understand how difficult it is to do the lessons with the children, as well as coping with other commitments.  If there are times when you are unable to get through all the activities, please just select what is manageable for you and your family.  Take care.

Here are the tasks for today:
10.30   Teams call Year 1-Spelling Test
11.00   Teams call Year 2 -Spelling Test
Reading
English  Spelling and Handwriting
Maths
Forest School activities
Story
Collective Worship – see Enrichment page

Teams Calls - Year 1 at 10.30 and Year 2 at 11.00
I look forward to seeing you on our video call later and we will do our spelling tests together.

Printing work ahead of the lesson
Where there is an activity that can be printed for the children write on, the links are hightlighted in pale blue
If you are not able to print sheets, it's fine for the children to look at the activity on the screen, then write the answers in their book.

Work to send in
Each day, I will choose one piece of work or activity that I would like you to send to me.

You can take a photograph or scan the work, then send it to me  - class2@gfschools.co.uk
Try your best with all the activities and keep your work neat and tidy.  Please keep all your work together in your book or a folder and write the date on each piece of work.
Today, it would be great to see your spelling work.

Reading
Please spend at least 20 minutes each day on reading or sharing a book with an adult.
If you have finished your school reading book, you can read books that you have at home or access books online.
Please see https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/  Free ebooks

Year 2 – Don’t forget to do an AR quiz when you have finished your reading book.   https://ukhosted79.renlearn.co.uk/6706937/

Here is today's story for sharing now or later in the day:

English: Spelling and Handwriting
Today, we are going to do our spelling tests when we meet for the Teams call.

Then, h
ere are  the next sets of spelling rules for you to work on during this week.

1.  Please have a look at the information on the  powerpoint presentation about your spellings. Links in the box below.
Open the powerpoint into 'Slideshow' to enable the  interactive activities to work, then click to move through the stages in each slide.
2. Look at the spelling list log and write the words for Day 1.
3.  In your book, please write three sentences.  Each sentence must have at least one word from your spelling list.
Underline the words that are from your list.  Don't forget the capital letter and full stop.   Please write the date.
Examples:
              Monday 18th January

Year 1:   I came first in the race.
Year 2:   There is an apple on the table

4.  Also, I would like you to practise your
handwriting skills.  Open the document to see the handwriting joins for each of your words. You can print the page or look at the words on your screen then copy them into your book.    There are left or right handed versions.

5. This week, there are also wordsearches and a spelling activity for both year groups..

Year 1 – Words with the digraph ‘ir’ and 'ur'.  Vowel digraphs.  These are groups of two letters – at least one of which is a vowel – that make a single sound, for example, the letters 'ir' in the word 'first'

Forest School Activities

Today, you might like to go outside into your garden or go for a walk.
Here are some activities from the Woodland Trust, that you might enjoy doing over the next few weeks:

 https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2021/01/lockdown-activities-kids-winter/

You might like to go on a nature walk or do a scavenger hunt.
You could become a 'Tree Tracker' and learn how to identify trees using the Woodland Trust App.
If you decide to stay indoors, there are there a lost of ideas for craft activities, such as making a sculpture, a cardboard tube friendly fox or even your own woodland theatre in a shoebox.

How are you getting on with measuring wind speed, for last week's science task?  Try to remember to measure the wind speed on five different days and record it on your wind log. There will be a chance to share some of our results later in the week during one of our Teams calls.

P.E.
It's very important that we do plenty of exercise each day.  You might do lots of exercise if you go outdoors to do some Forest school activities.  You might also like to do a space-age work out with Joe Wicks - he's dressed as Buzz Lightyear in this one!.  Here's a recording of the session from Friday.

Please let me know if you have any worries or if there is anything I can help you with.
I'll be back with you tomorrow.
Take care and try to be helpful at home.
